COSMO 2013 Accommodation

Conference speakers and participants will be housed in three Cambridge venues: Trinity Hall, the Stephen Hawking Building (part of Gonville & Caius College), and Churchill College. Breakfast will be served on site at all three venues.

Trinity Hall - Wychfield Site

The Wychfield Site is situated a mile from the city centre and offers superb single ensuite bedrooms set within delightful gardens. The bedrooms are spacious, with plenty of natural light, large desks, tea and coffee making facilities, wired internet access and toiletry packs. The accommodation has TV lounges to relax in. The Porters' Lodge, where delegates check in and out, is open 24 hours a day. There you will find a wealth of local tourist information, while the porters can help with any enquiries you may have, and can arrange transport as necessary.

Regrettably there is no parking at the Wychfield Site.

From the M11 (going North)
Exit at Junction 13. Turn right into Madingley Road. Follow the road down towards the City Centre. Take the left turn into Storey's Way, follow the road round to the left, and the Wychfield site is located on the right hand side, just before the playing fields. There is no exit at Junction 13 on the M11 travelling South.

From the A428 (to and from the West)
Take exit marked for Cambridge and this will bring you down in to Madingley Road. Follow the road down towards the city centre, following the above instructions from the M11.

From the City Centre
Storey's Way is the second turning on the right as you come out of Cambridge along the Madingley Road, towards the M11 and A428. This junction is marked with a traffic island in the middle of the road. Turn into Storey's Way, follow the road round to the left, and the entrance to the Wychfield Site is located on the right hand side, just before the playing fields.

From the A14 (East)
Take exit marked for Cambridge at Histon and this will bring you down to a large junction with several traffic lights. Here turn right onto the A1134. At the next lights turn left onto A1134 signposted ring road then immediately right, still the A1134 (ring road). Bear left onto Shelly Row and then right onto Albion Row. At the traffic lights turn right onto Madingley Road (A1303). Follow directions 'from the city centre' above.

From the A14 (North West)
Follow the signs for Cambridge City Centre. This brings you down along Huntingdon Road. Pass Girton College and Hotel Felix on your left. Take the next right-hand turning which is marked by a turning lane in the centre of the road with bollards, and on the corner of Storey's Way is the Cambridge Lodge Hotel with a white wall. Follow along Storey's Way, after the road bends round to the left, the Wychfield Site entrance is on the left hand side, after the playing fields.

Arriving by Train

Cambridge train station is located approximately 2.5 miles from the Wychfield Site. Direct trains run to Cambridge from both London King's Cross and London Liverpool Street at half-hourly intervals. The taxi rank and bus stop are adjacent to the main station entrance. The taxi fare to Wychfield is approximately £12, journey time 15 minutes. Buses run every few minutes as far as the city centre.

The Stephen Hawking Building

Less than 10 minutes walk from the city centre of Cambridge is the West Road site of Gonville and Caius comprising of Harvey Court and the Stephen Hawking Building. The Stephen Hawking Building was designed by Mark Wilkinson and officially opened by HRH Prince Philip in April 2007. This £13 million, state-of-art facility, is named after the College’s most celebrated living Fellow, Professor Stephen Hawking, who lived and wrote his famed bestseller A Brief History of Time on this site. There is ready access to the beautiful college gardens which stretch from West Road to Sidgwick Avenue. The bedrooms have coffee making facilities, spa toiletries, work desk and wireless internet access.

Delegates attending the Stephen Hawking Building should report to the West Road Porters' Lodge at 5 West Road, Cambridge, CB3 9DS which is staffed 24 hours a day; the telephone number is 01223 335400.

Arriving by Car

West Road - Leave the M11 at Junction 13, taking the A1303 toward Cambridge. Follow the A1303 (Madingley Road) to the end where you come to a mini roundabout. Take the second exit, turning right on to Queens Road. From Queens Road take your first right on to West Road. The Porters Lodge is located on the left hand side. Please note parking is restricted at the West Road site (please see below for further details).

Arriving by Rail

Direct trains run to Cambridge from both London King's Cross and London Liverpool Street at half-hourly intervals. The rail station is about 1½ miles from the city centre. A taxi rank is adjacent to the main station entrance.

Arriving by Coach

National coaches stop at Drummer Street Bus Station in the city centre, around a 7 minute walk to the Old Courts site and a 15 minute walk to West Road.

We have available a number of double ensuite rooms and single standard rooms with shared bathrooms. All standard rooms have a wash hand basin in the room. The rooms include a spacious desk, free broadband internet access as well as tea and coffee. Additional facilities include an on-site laundrette, a TV room, a bar and café (subject to opening hours).

Arriving by Car

From the M11 (from the south) Exit Junction 13
Please note: There is no exit southbound at Junction 13 on M11. See directions below for A14 (from the north west).
At the end of the slip road, turn right onto Madingley Road. Continue towards the CCity Centre. Pass the Cavendish Laboratory on the right, followed by the College playing fields on the left. Take the next left turning onto Storey's Way. Churchill College is on the left hand corner of the site. Drive past the front of the College. Take the first turning on the left which has a sign 'Churchill Road, Private Road'. Follow the directions below for parking.

From the A428 (from the west)
After the blue pedestrian bridge, exit the A428, crossing the roundabout onto the A1303 signed for Cambridge. Pass the American War Cemetery on your left and continue towards the City Centre, crossing the M11. Pass the Cavendish Laboratory on the right, followed by the College playing fields on the left. Take the next left turning onto Storey's Way. Churchill College is on the left hand corner of the site. Drive past the front of the College. Take the first turning on the left which has a sign 'Churchill Road, Private Road'. Follow the directions below for parking.

From the A14 (from the east; not suitable for vehicles over 6'6")
Take the third exit signposted for Cambridge. At top of the slip road take the first exit signposted Cambridge (B1049). Follow this road for approximately 2km, reaching the T-junction at the end. Turn right and immediately right again through two sets of traffic lights. You are on the A1307 heading towards Huntingdon. After passing Murray Edwards (off-white) and Fitzwilliam (brown) Colleges and some playing fields on the left, and just before a set of pedestrian traffic lights, turn left into Storey's Way. Pass through the width restriction on the first bend. After the next sharp bend turn right into: 'Churchill Road, Private Road'. Follow the directions below for parking.

From the A14 (from the north west; not suitable for vehicles over 6'6")
Take junction 31 off A14 (just as it meets the M11). Follow signs to Cambridge along A1307, keeping in the right-hand lane. Continue towards Cambridge City Centre, travelling along Huntingdon Road. Pass Girton College and Hotel Felix on your left. After the second set of traffic lights turn right into Storey's Way. Pass through the width restriction on the first bend. After the next sharp bend turn right into 'Churchill Road, Private Road'. Follow the directions below for parking.

From the City Centre (via ring road)
Approach the roundabout with Madingley Road (A1303) either from Queen's Road (A1134, clockwise) or Chesterton Road (A1303, anti-clockwise). Turn onto Madingley Road (heading west, towards the M11). After three sets of traffic lights, take the left turn onto Storey's Way. Pass the college on the left and turn into .Churchill Road, Private Road.. Follow the directions below for parking.

On reaching Churchill Road, Private Road:
Continue past the staff car park on the immediate left. Parking is available along the right-hand side of the Private Road and in the car park at the top, past the Møller Centre car park.

Directions for wide vehicles (>2m):
Wide vehicles approaching Storey's Way from the Huntingdon Road side will not be able to get through the width restrictions. Continue along Huntingdon Road towards Cambridge. Follow signs first for Ring Road, then at traffic lights take left hand lane for Shire Hall; pass Shire Hall on left, continuing towards Cambridge. Turn right at traffic lights onto Northampton Street, following sign for London, M11 and Bedford. At miniroundabout turn right onto Madingley Road. Turn right into Storey's Way, Churchill College is on the left hand corner of the site. Drive past the front of the College. Take the first turning on the left which has a sign 'Churchill Road, Private Road'. Follow the directions above for parking.

Arriving by Train

Cambridge railway station has a frequent service from London King's Cross, the Midlands and the North and a direct link from Stansted Airport, as well as plentiful local services. Cambridge railway station is situated 2 miles from Churchill College.

The Citi 4 bus stops near to the College on Madingley Road and includes stops at St Neots, the Botanic Gardens and Addenbrooke's Hospital. A timetable is available here.
